Sunday XI vs Torquayby Pat Steward
Under a blue sky and blazing sunshine - but inevitably a damp outfield - Exeter batted first. After falling to 18-2, a 3rd wicket partnership of 126 between Sean Langford (80) and 15 year old Marcus Hoddinott (44) set the foundation of a big score. Callum Still (55 n.o.) and Richard Stevens (47) came together towards the end of the innings to smash some big sixes to take Exeter to a total of 277 for 6. Still's 55 included five 6's in one over (he didn't face the first ball!) and his 50 came from just 20 balls.
Torquay didn't get off to a great start in reply, losing two early wickets to 15 year old Sam Boddington (3 for 30 from 6). Against some accurate bowling on a slow track ("Raptor" 2 for 36 from 8, Stevens 2 for 38 from 8) Torquay struggled to gain momentum, although there were a few big 6's by way of retribution for earlier carnage! Torquay were eventually dismissed for 155.
A good win by Exeter but pleasing to see the younger generation of Exeter players making some very telling contributions to the win - Hoddinott, Boddington, Will Street and James Vanstone.
