Sunday XI vs Stokeinteignstead

by Pat Steward

South Devon league game, Exeter v S'head

Sun’s out, dragging Tshepo from his bed!

1s, 2s and 3s all in the fold.

A good mix of young and old.

Exeter off to a flier, as so often,

With 48 off 10, just the loss of Cawthron.

After many dot balls, whitey hit through the covers,

Saf on 38, was thinking about mothers!

Meanwhile, Whitey's first 50 of the season

With broken bat, there had to be a reason!

At 150/4, wickets began to fall:

5 in 11 runs, not like Exeter at all!

Well batted Poustie 23 and  Bate 14 not out

Naj the batter, with 18, gave the boys a shout....

.......at a win, with 195 for 9 off 40.

Reflection: when you're in, stay in ‘ til tea!

Master Bate, bowled 8 for 8 with no luck

Two wickets for Dom, 93 from 20, when Naj the bowler struck:

A double wicket maiden, straight after drinks

93/4, delicately poised me thinks?

18 runs in 10 overs, thanks to Naj and Vanstone

Then Saf was introduced, spin bowler unknown?

111 for 6 at the 30 over mark

Naj off (3 wickets for 21); Saf going round the park!

Still 60 runs needed, 7 overs to go

A wicket maiden for Saf, what do you know!

137 - 8, but the man with 60's still in,

But Grainger and Poustie combine, we're on for a win

Last wicket down, we've won by 50 runs

11 points, skipper Grainer well done.

Naj is voted (rightly) Man of the Game

Where’s Whitey? Gone to the pub again!
